Its only December and its 0 already we are probably going to break a record for the coldest snowiest December.
I braved the weather this morning and dug a path to the bird feeders.
We had some drifting and of course it really drifted by the gate leading out to the arbor where we have the feeders hanging.
I dont care how silly it looks making a path on the grass it helps for our girls Sally and Abbie to get around as well.
I brought bird seed for the birds, corn for the squirrels and some of the birds
peanuts in the shell for the blu jays they love the peanuts and corn.
Some of the corn I take off the cob then I just throw the cob under the arbor
Here are a couple of them watching me.
We have been feeding the Birds and Squirrels for many years so we are not new to this.
Its so cold but the sun is shinning and its not windy.
It sure makes for a better day if it has to dip down that low and you have to go out in it...
Our Niece Robbie had business close to our house yesterday and stopped by for a visit with us.
She brought so many goodies we were so happy and shocked.
I want to thank her from Uncle Bill and I and Sally and Abbie. the family came over and helped me eat everything up, almost!! their was so much we are trying to save some.
LOL she knows why..
Thank You so much Rob!!
We Love You
We also got another surprise from Megan our Grand Daughter
When the family came over last night
She had made home made caramels and brought us some.
They are so delicious.
You must try her recipe they melt in your mouth.
They are especially great around Christmas time to share with Family and Friends.
Chewy Caramels
1 pound light brown sugar
1 (14 ounce) can sweetened condensed milk
1 cup light corn syrup
1 pinch salt
1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract
Directions
1.In a heavy bottomed saucepan over medium heat, combine the butter, brown sugar, sweetened condensed milk, corn syrup and salt. Bring to a boil, stirring constantly. Heat to roughly 250 degrees F (112 to 116 degrees C), or until a small amount of syrup dropped into cold water forms a soft ball that flattens when removed from the water and placed on a flat surface. Cook for 2 minutes at that temperature. Remove from the heat and stir in vanilla.
2.Meanwhile, butter a 9x13 inch baking pan. When the caramel is ready, pour into the buttered pan. Allow to cool completely at room temperature. Remove from the pan and cut into squares using scissors. Wrap individual pieces in waxed paper or cellophane.
That's all for today I have a lot I should be doing.
the birds are beautiful - recipe sounds yummy - we'll resume our visit when things calm down again - love to all xo
